When Julia Hartlep was in eighth grade, a delegate by the name of Hersh Pareek came into her middle school to recruit new delegates for Youth in Government. “When I was watching the presentation, I remember thinking to myself ‘Yeah I’d really like to do that!”
The very next Tuesday, Hartlep attended her very first Youth in Government meeting at her own local delegation. “While touring the different branches, I visited Press Corps last. And I knew that I wanted to stay there.”
As Editor in Chief, Hartlep manages different newsletters during the portion of time before Model Government. This includes “publishing a newsletter to the state of Wisconsin every two months.”
This first one is in November, and the second publication will come out in January. Stay tuned! “Of course, I also serve as a resource or mentor for any delegate who needs to reach out.”
However, at Model Government, the Press Corps definitely has to keep on writing and publishing articles. Throughout this weekend, Hartlep is in charge of “editing and writing, but mainly formatting all of these different publications of ‘Truth from the Youth.’ During Model Government, these have to come out much more frequently than during the rest of the regular season.”
Through Youth in Government, Hartlep has learned and grown “so, so much. The people I’ve met and interacted with have profoundly, undeniably affected my life and who I am today. I cannot stress enough how incredible it is to see how passionate and motivated all of the delegates are, especially when the whole state converges in March at Model Government.”
