When first entering Youth in Government, some don’t really have and understanding of how the hierarchy of the system works. What I have personally come to understand is that it can be confusing trying to figure out who really runs the show, so to speak, and what their actual job is.
It is important to know who is in charge of Youth in Government; and with that I would like to dive deeper into getting to know your current Lieutenant Governor Michael Usher, and how he rose to his current position within the program.
Michael is a member of the Eau Claire delegation and this will be his fourth year apart of the program. After spending is the first three years in the legislative branch, Micheal decided to join forces with Carter King from the Fox Cities delegation and run for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, with him as the latter. “I met Carter in Nelson my first year and I hated the guy, so I was the only one who voted against his bill.” Usher stated. Feelings changed between the two when they went to CONA (The Conference on National Affairs) together as the only two freshmen on the trip. There they began their friendship, and had the idea to run their junior year.
Being a member of the Eau Claire delegation and being a personal friend of Michael’s since elementary school, I can honestly say that with the work that he and Carter have done over the break and the plans they have for the future of the program, Youth in Government is currently in great hands.
It is important in Youth in Government to understand what exactly is going on and how things work. After all, you, too, could become interested in running for governor or lieutenant governor some day.
