Youth In Government was just another thing for me to do with my time when I first joined in seventh grade. It was a way to in the end get out of school and go to Madison.
After I went through the whole process and actually experienced Model Gov, I fell in love with this program. There was no doubt in my mind that I was ever gonna leave.
I started off my first year of Youth in Government shy and awkward. I stayed around my delegation, not interacting with anyone else. Over the past four years that has changed. I’ve slowly over these four years been able to interact more with people outside of my delegation. Youth in Government has helped me to be more out there and not just in YIG, at school and in other activities I’ve been able to open up more.
With being in Press Corps I get to see all aspects of the program. It’s one of my favorite things to just sit in Legislation and write up whatever article I’m doing. I like watching the debates and hearing every interesting bill there is to see.
Youth In Government is an uplifting environment and the things I’ve learned from it will stick with me.
