Manitowoc Delegation: Senior Spotlight

Cassandra Gunderson found out about YIG as a sophomore from a friend and was in the program for two years. What she liked about YIG was that it encourages people to speak up, and how the debating was done. Her plans after high school are to go to Marquette University to learn political science. If she had the opportunity to obtain a government occupation, she would accept it. She went to CONA, which is similar to Model Gov. It has Legislative and Media branches, as well as a much bigger debate format. It’s essentially a giant Model Gov session and people from all around the country attend. She would suggest this program to others because it helps people to speak up for themselves and learn public speaking.

Ellyanna Zipperer joined YIG after learning about it from her mom. She has attended YIG for two years and likes learning about others’ perspectives. She would accept a government occupation if she had the chance but wants to go to a medical college and become a doctor after high school. She didn’t go to CONA and would suggest this program to others.

Lucinda Kue joined YIG as a sophomore after learning about it from her high school friends who were in it since their freshman year. She was convinced by her friends because it was so fun in Madison and stayed in the program for three years. After high school, she wants to achieve a major in business and marketing but is unsure what college to attend from waiting for her admission decisions. She wouldn’t take the job for a government position but loves YIG because of debate and learning the points of view from other people. She also enjoys how you can share close connections with people in a short period of time, and debating with others and still be their friends. She attended CONA and says, “I got to meet so many intelligent high school students. The delegates there were so smart and passionate and really opened my eyes.” She got to meet people from all over the country and from her experience she thought it was an amazing part of YIG. She would strongly encourage this program because there aren’t a lot of people who understand what’s so fun about it.
