Girl Scouts at the Capitol

Every spring, the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland invites all Wisconsin Girl scout branches to visit the Madison Capitol for the day, with this year’s event being held on March 9th, coinciding with Youth in Government’s annual weekend at the Capitol, which ran from March 8-10th this year.

The event is focused on introducing the Girl Scouts to the basic concepts of the U.S. Government, such as democracy and the three branches of government through fun activities such as a scavenger hunt throughout the capitol, taking photos, and earning a patch on their vest.

When asked what the main goal of this visit was, troupe leader Michelle Hughes stated that, “I would hope for them to learn a little bit about local governments, and a little bit about federal governments as well.”

Girl Scouts allows young girls to explore their interests in a variety of creative ways, the Capitol visit is a great way to introduce the youth into the government atmosphere with a fun capitol visit, which may also eventually introduce them to the statewide Youth in Government program and inspire them to make changes in their communities.
