Some delegates of YIG were interviewed about their thoughts on who should do YIG. The first question asked to JJ Butler was, what motivated you to join YIG? JJ said that he was a freshman back into home school after 4 years with nothing to do and no connections, unmotivated, depressed. His mother and brother decided he should get involved so they chose YIG to get him into. The next question we asked Aron was, How has participating in the club helped you develop your understanding of government? What skills or qualities have you gained or improved upon through your involvement in YIG? Aron said he has gained to value other people’s ideas. Something that Abigail Hanke has gained the understanding of the long process of passing bills and how long it can take. Abigail Hanke has also gained more knowledge about the media and how much media really does for YIG and the amount of hours it takes to put videos and stuff together. Another question that was asked to Annika was, what roles or positions have you held within YIG, and how have they shaped your experience? Annika said that she really looked up to previous directors, inspired them, and persevered to work harder. The next question that was asked to a couple of people and they all said that the most exciting or rewarding thing about YIG was getting to see all of the bills. Henry was asked if he had any opportunities to meet with real government officials or participate in real-world political events because of YIG. Henry said through YIG in freshman ymca he got to meet Colin Allred, Berry Sander, Canala Harris, and Biden. He also said that you have the courage to do this. Kaylie got asked what advice she would give students who are interested in joining YIG? She said that she would tell them to not be scared and that everyone is nice. Henry also answered this question and said don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
