Why Youth In Government? People may look at this program and think it’s pointless or a waste of time, but it is incredibly beneficial for civic engagement and preparing the future generation. Without civic engagement, democracy doesn’t work. Democracy is a government for the people, by the people, and if people are not taught how to get involved, that entire system will fall apart.
Youth In Government is a program that informs students about the inner workings of the government while also giving them additional information on how to get involved in both their teen and adult years. Youth in Government helps countless students discover new passions and shows them a future where they can use those passions. If you come into this program with an interest in the court system, you may join the Judicial system and realize you’re more into making the laws, rather than interpreting them. Then the following year, you can switch over to the Legislative program area to learn more about how bills are passed.
After this, you may realize that neither of these are the best fit for you, and instead you want to report on what’s happening in all of the program areas and switch to media. Youth in Government creates countless opportunities for students to discover what they love to do as well as prepare them for adulthood. These opportunities also help many students find lifelong friends and the confidence to share their ideas and opinions. In conclusion, civic engagement is crucial for society and our future.
Youth in Government teaches students how to get involved in the world, learn about government, and discover new passions and confidence. All of these are reasons why YIG is so important and meaningful to so many students.
