Media’s Favorite Memories

The 2025-2026 Youth In Government session has seen many changes since previous years, including many changes in the Judicial program area. One of the biggest changes being the addition of a new branch, the Court of Appeals. This year, the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals are completely different, bringing new challenges and opportunities for delegates.
When asking two members of the Judicial branch about these changes, both delegates stated that the addition of the new court system was the most prominent change in the area. One delegate sees this as an opportunity for the Judicial branch, especially new delegates, to continue to grow and get more comfortable and confident. Another delegate mentioned how she thinks the growth is very beneficial to the understanding of how the whole court system works. For new delegates, getting thrown into the supreme court with little understanding of how it works can be terrifying and extremely uncomfortable. Getting experience in the Court of Appeals before jumping into the Supreme Court will help everyone feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about how the system works.
Supreme Court cases include many topics, but this year many of them revolve around the fourth amendment and online behavior. When program members were asked about the cases, both of them wished to see more of a variety of topics in future years. These delegates are hearing these cases being argued and are studying them countless times a day, so when the content is very similar, it can get extremely exhausting to hear and talk about over and over again. Delegates also stated that they wished the cases could go over more amendments, instead of just the usual and almost overused ones. Again, many cases this year focus on the fourth amendment, so when people are talking about the same rights over and over it can get extremely tiring.
In conclusion, The Judicial program area has had many changes this year, which are making the Judicial branch more accessible and understandable for new delegates, giving them more experience and information before participating in the supreme court. The delegates see these changes as a great opportunity to make the whole program area a more inclusive place so people can be more confident in themselves due to having more experience and knowledge, despite repetitive case topics.
