Every day is different for every individual, but when it comes to being in the Judicial branch of Youth In Government, every delegate has a similar day. It is not appreciated nearly enough how hard they work each day and how much effort they put into their cases, so let’s take a look at a day in the life of a Judicial delegate and an ex-Judicial delegate to gage a perspective on what’s going on in the branch.
First, I interviewed Beatrice Sanka about her time at the 2026 Model Gov Conference. Beatrice is a Junior in high school in the Fox Cities delegation and here is what her day in a life looks like through her eyes.
Beatrice starts off with getting up and ready, specifically stating: “I am not a morning person.” After Beatrice eventually wakes up, she heads over to the capitol along with all of the other delegates. The Judicial delegates meet together along with all of the other programs, and talk over before continuing what they were working on from the beginning of the Youth In Government season. They then debate their cases, which they had prepared either an appellant or defendant side, prior to the year’s Model Gov.
“Each delegate gets to have a turn at being justice or as some call it ‘The Judge‘”, said Beatrice. Once Beatrice’s day is over after all of the debate, she will return to the hotel and meet with her delegation like everyone else. Beatrice stated that she is “having a lot of fun so far”. With this information, we can see that Supreme Court delegates have been having really good, productive days this conference.
Greta Wallace, a Media delegate who participated in the Judicial branch of last year’s Model Gov., has shown how last year was a little different. Greta Wallace stated that “last year was super unorganized and messy”. Comparing that to when Beatrice was asked if this year was unorganized, she responded with “I think everyone seems prepared and knows what they are doing” this goes to show how the Supreme Court has improved and will hopefully continue to improve for years to come. The day in the life of a Supreme Court delegate is different for each individual, but it is important to know all that they do, and how hard they work through the day and weekend, and also to reflect on the great improvements made as the branch continues to evolve through YIG’s lifespan.
