Notes from Jen Zwicky, Youth in Government State Director: Friday, March 13

Welcome, delegates, to the 2020 Wisconsin YMCA Youth in Government Model Government conference! A few notes for you to review regarding this year’s conference:

NEW THIS YEAR: Directly following opening ceremony, all three assemblies (Harvey, Nelson, and Phillips) will remain in the Assembly Hall to debate the top bill of each assembly in a joint session. This debate will be chaired by the Phillips team, and we will hear debate on bill #1 (Zheng), #98 (Ritger), and #23 (Taylor-Feldman) before splitting into individual assemblies.

DON’T BE LATE: Remember that Capitol doors lock at 6:00 PM tonight, so please make plans accordingly. Please use the South Hamilton entrance to enter the building.

PEER MENTORS: Peer mentors will have an opportunity tonight to meet with their mentees and check in on their first day – please see the Model Gov schedule for details!

INTENT TO RUN: Reminder – delegates planning to run for state office (Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Chief Justice, and Editor-in-Chief) MUST have their Presiding Officer Commitments Forms signed by their advisor and submitted to the state office by 11:00 PM tonight in order to be listed on the ballot.
